Tribute and homage to the legendary Tiskelwah and Ms.Florence Walker Casey
Florence walker casey was a member of ebenezer baptist church where she was a former superintendent of sunday school and had an impact on many neighborhood children. She graduated from garnet high school in 1956. In fact, florence was the last graduate of garnet high school. She continued her education and graduated from west virginia state university where she earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. While at wvsu, she was a member of bets beta omega chapter of alpha kappa alpha sorority, inc.
She began her teaching career in cincinnati, ohio. Upon her return to west virginia, she taught school in kanawha county and retired from tiskelwah elementary school after 40 years of ensuring educational excellence. It was no secret she received lots of joy as a teacher for kanawha county schools. She was a member of appalachian educational lab (ael), a member of west virginia education association and kanawha county council of international reading association.
Florence walker casey is survived by her son, wayne e. Casey (stephanie) and special granddaughter, carissa nicole; sisters, nellie e. Walker of charleston, and carolyn w. Walker of frederick, md; special sister-in-law, adrian walker (late brother, richard g. “punkin” walker); nieces, debbie hart and tracy parker; nephew, michael walker; great nieces, terri a. Berkley, and alexia parker; great nephews, michael, jermaine, jordan, and cequan walker, and vaughn parker. Florence will be greatly missed by family and a host of friends that affectionately called her “ms. Casey” or “casey.” she loved her family and we loved her back!
